Before & After: A Mental Health Training Institute Website Transformation
When PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) International reached out to us, they were in desperate need of a website overhaul. The organization had built and managed its own website on Weebly for years, and as the company grew, its website became too much to handle.
Before…
The three main pain points with their old website were:
Outdated design
Their original site had been developed and maintained by volunteers over the years, and while it served as an online home base for PCIT International, it was starting to look dated.
Disorganized
One of the biggest challenges of maintaining a website of this size is knowing where to put all of the information. PCIT was running into this issue, and they mentioned that one of the biggest problems with their old site was that visitors couldn’t find what they were looking for.
Big provider directory
On top of managing a large website, the organization had a large (and growing) list of PCIT-trained providers. Their old website featured a provider map so that parents and therapists could search worldwide for a clinician in their area.
Here’s what the PCIT International homepage looked like before we worked together:

Fun Fact: Back when I was a therapist, I was training to become a PCIT provider! This project was a full-circle moment for me.
During…
Over the course of the project, this is what we worked on:
Brand refresh
We started this project by rounding out the organization’s visual brand identity. They had an existing logo that they wanted to continue using, but no unified color palette, fonts, or graphic style.
To transform the existing website’s stagnant, clinical feel, we introduced a palette of bright, bold colors, playful and friendly fonts, and geometric shapes to echo the play-based therapy PCIT is known for.
Restructure & reorganize
Once the new visual brand identity was set, we cataloged all of the website’s existing content and reorganized it into a more intuitive flow.
Website redesign
With the site structure set, we redesigned all of PCIT’s main pages based on their new brand identity. We incorporated color to make the site feel more fun and engaging, organized their content into digestible sections so as not to overwhelm visitors, and made sure their extensive navigation was… easy to navigate!
Here’s what the PCIT International homepage looked like after we worked together:
Provider directory build
We also rebuilt their entire provider directory on Squarespace 7.1, with the help of the Storepoint plugin. Prioritizing ease-of-use was a top priority here, as they need to update this directory frequently for new providers.
Migration to Squarespace 7.1
Finally, once the new site was built on Squarespace, it was time to redirect the domain. We made sure all of the old URLs were redirected so that 1) visitors wouldn’t end up on a 404 page when clicking old links, and 2) Google wouldn’t get confused.
After…
Updated, modern design
Now, PCIT International has a professional, engaging website that’s more than just an online home base; it’s an authentic representation of their brand that builds credibility and connects with more people.
Shoutout to Will Myers for his timeline plugin and Becca Harpain for her gradient overlay code (I ♡ my fellow Squarespacers).
Logical site flow
After the redesign, everything has a place. Visitors can move through the site easily and find what they need without getting redirected or lost.
Interactive provider directory
The new provider directory features an interactive map with up-to-date information. And the best part? Provider listings can be updated via a linked Google Sheet, which means website managers don’t have to go into the website itself to make frequent directory changes.
Now that PCIT International has a modern, professional website, clinicians can find certification and training information, parents can quickly find PCIT providers, and all visitors can easily find what they’re looking for. Most importantly, the organization’s expertise and esteemed reputation are finally on full display at pcit.org.
