3 New Clients in 3 Weeks: How a Template Reframe Helped a Houston Therapist Grow Her Caseload
When Amy Birk, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Houston, Texas, reached out to me, she had just launched her own solo practice (after working in a group practice for a few years) but didn’t have a website yet. She had a clear niche and was slowly building her caseload, but needed some help attracting more best-fit clients.
Cut to: a month later, a new website, and three new clients as a result of clear, focused messaging and branding created with Hold Space Creative.
Here's how a Template Reframe got her there.
Starting with a solid foundation
At initial contact, Amy described her current situation:
"I have been working in a group private practice for the last 3 years, but I just launched my own solo practice and need to create my own website. I have a clear niche and am already working directly with this population, but need a website to attract new clients."
The challenge Amy faced was translating an established style of holding space and a specific niche into a website that could stand on its own and do the client-attracting for her.
Before any design work began, Amy worked through Hold Space Creative's copywriting templates to help her put her work into words. She described wanting to be "a lighthouse" for her clients:
"I want to provide a sturdy, consistent place for people to return to no matter what storms they are going through."
She also named the pressure her high-achieving clients carry (“the pull to constantly perform, succeed, and produce, often at the cost of their own wellbeing”) and the deeper work she wanted her practice to offer instead: a place to put all of that down.
That language became the foundation for every design decision that followed.
Translating Amy’s style of holding space into a website
Working from Amy's answers, the Andrea template got a full reframe. Here's how that reflection translated into the finished site:
Color palette
Amy's quiz results pointed her toward an earth-tone palette, which the Andrea template has already, but the standard version felt too light and airy for her niche. Her high-achieving clients have built successful lives on paper while carrying real stress and pressure underneath. So the palette needed to feel highly polished and tailored, but deep and grounded, pulling anxious, heady energy down into something steady.
Darker tones aren't typical for therapy websites, and that became an advantage: a way for Amy to stand out to the best-fit clients looking for a therapist who does things differently, rather than a soft, airy, pastel approach that wouldn't resonate with her niche at all.
Fonts
The heading font I chose was set in a lighter weight to keep a familiar serif style feeling soft rather than heavy — a thicker weight paired with the darker palette would have read as more directive and solution-focused, which isn't Amy's approach.
A structured sans-serif paragraph font balances it out. Friendly, easy to read, and timeless.
Photography
Several of Amy's original photos were converted to black and white to help keep a more consistent color scheme. The result reads as more cohesive and polished across the whole site, which again, will resonate with her high-achiever clients.
Buttons
Primary buttons were switched from the original template's underline style to a filled, rounded design, which offered a chance to bring in a wheat-colored accent and soften the overall feel, while underlined buttons stayed elsewhere on the site for variety.
Small design choices
A Carl Jung quote on Amy's Services page became a scrolling text block instead of a static line; many therapists like to include notable quotes on their websites, and I think that’s fine, but displaying it in an unconventional way adds more visual interest and draws the viewer in.
Stock photography was chosen based on texture primarily. Sand, marble, and wood paneling lent well as background imagery to give Amy’s site depth while not distracting from the content she worked so hard to write.
Custom logos
In addition to a Template Reframe, Amy and I booked a Design Day to create a custom logo suite for her practice. We worked together to create a Primary, Secondary, and Badge mark for her business, which gave us a chance to bring the “lighthouse” metaphor into her branding (without being too overt).
What Amy had to say
Amy's feedback after our work together speaks directly to why this process worked for her:
"I think the process / system you've built is incredibly thoughtful and streamlined... I wanted something that really felt unique to my business and it really felt like you delivered this!
It just was so clear -- and I think communicating over email with information to reference was actually really helpful. I had pre-work to do, you told me what to expect, and gave me permission to just sit back and let you take it from there and that was really nice.”
She gave the process a perfect 10 out of 10 for likelihood to recommend, both for the Template Reframe and for her Design Day logo work, noting that having multiple entry points (copy templates, Template Reframe, logo design) let her invest at her own pace rather than facing one large price tag upfront.
When both our Template Reframe and logo design process were complete, Amy reported back:
I just got a new client that found me on Psychology Today that said he picked me as a therapist because of my first line on my profile. I only wrote that line because of the workbook prompts I had to complete.
I just started opening up for new clients in June and I already have 3 new clients. I truly believe it is because my marketing / design materials are so clear and speak directly to my niche... thanks to your help! THANK YOU!
Why a Template Reframe was the perfect fit
Amy came in with a clear niche and years of clinical experience already behind her. She needed a website (fast) but didn’t want to spend time picking colors and fonts on her own with a DIY template. She also didn’t need to spend $11k+ on a custom website for her solo practice.
What she needed was a design process that helped her capture the unique way she holds space and the specific feeling she wanted her clients to have. A Template Reframe allowed us to expedite the design process (using the Andrea template as the base design) while creating a website tailored to her best-fit clients.
That's the versatility of a Template Reframe; the same foundation can become a grounded, calming space for a therapist working with burned-out high-achievers, or something entirely different for the next practice owner who walks through the door with their own story to tell.
If you're launching a solo practice and want a website that reflects the clarity you've already built, and you’re looking for a happy medium between DIY and custom design, a Template Reframe might be a great fit.
